{"id":1552,"date":"2021-07-14T14:37:13","date_gmt":"2021-07-14T14:37:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/estilogerardo.art\/?p=1552"},"modified":"2022-01-07T19:35:13","modified_gmt":"2022-01-07T19:35:13","slug":"the-kiss","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/estilogerardo.art\/en\/the-kiss\/","title":{"rendered":"The Kiss"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>The Kiss<\/em><\/strong> (in German <em>Der Kuss<\/em>) is an <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Oil_painting\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">oil-on-canvas painting<\/a><\/strong> with added <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gold_leaf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">gold leaf<\/a><\/strong>, silver and platinum. by the Austrian <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Symbolist\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Symbolist<\/a><\/strong> painter <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gustav_Klimt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gustav Klimt<\/a><\/strong>. It was painted at some point in 1907 and 1908, during the height of what scholars call his &#8220;Golden Period&#8221;. It was exhibited in 1908 under the title <em>Liebespaar<\/em> (the lovers)<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Kiss_(Klimt)#cite_note-:0-4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><sup>]<\/sup><\/a> as stated in the catalogue of the exhibition. The painting depicts a couple embracing each other, their bodies entwined in elaborate beautiful robes decorated in a style influenced by the contemporary <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Art_Nouveau\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Art Nouveau<\/a><\/strong> style and the organic forms of the earlier <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Arts_and_Crafts_movement\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Arts and Crafts movement<\/a><\/strong>. The painting now hangs in the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/%C3%96sterreichische_Galerie_Belvedere\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00d6sterreichische Galerie Belvedere<\/a><\/strong> museum in the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Belvedere,_Vienna\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Belvedere, Vienna<\/a><\/strong>, and is considered a masterpiece of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vienna_Secession\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Vienna Secession<\/a><\/strong> (local variation of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Art_Nouveau\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Art Nouveau<\/a><\/strong>) and Klimt&#8217;s most popular work.<\/p>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Kiss (in German Der Kuss) is an oil-on-canvas painting with added gold leaf, silver and platinum. by the Austrian Symbolist painter Gustav Klimt.
